2005 Wanderer
Wanderer 2005
GJ Armstrong Building, Ottawa, Canada
Glass, wood, steel
Wanderer is composed of seven + five slump cast glass panels within the GJ Armstrong Building in Ottawa (Multi-Faith Worship Centre ). The piece celebrates the journey of avian migration, as each year billions of birds navigate from one geographic area to another. This pilgrimage is guided by an internal magnetic compass and by the mountains and rivers of our planet. The imagery in each unique cast glass panel combines flight with reference to food source and habitat. The glass panels are activated by the illumination of light within the building. Each panel is fully integrated into the architectural wall space, allowing for multiple viewing points on each side of the wall space. At times the imagery is present and decipherable while at other times the panels casts a soft glow on the surroundings.
