Gypsum, paper, photography, steel
An exhibition with Ineke Standish, a collaborator on a number of projects that involved members from diverse communities. In 11 3/4 which is the measured land mass of Green Island and the original site of Ottawa City Hall, we were interested in exploring the urban landscape and the history of the site. Gypsum jacketed logs and enlarged dandelion heads, created a reference to the lumber industry and land use policy in terms of monoculture within urban areas. Individuals members from the hearing impaired community participated by spelling out the word Applause using sign language. Each hand movement captured in the moment by liquid gypsum panels. The installation combines a hybrid of assembled forms displacing the process of naming and containing.
